This course will focus on strategy implementation from a practical perspective. No matter how organizations shape their strategy, one challenge that most of them face is implementing the formulated/formed strategy. The course is based on Balanced Scorecard concept introduced and developed by Kaplan and Norton. Their books and papers are reviewed through which we discuss how to translate strategy to operational plans, how to align different functions, business units, and shared services within a corporation to efficiently and effectively implement the strategy across the organization. The course also discusses the ways that strategy can become one of the concerns of people who should implement it. Learning during implementation in order to modify strategy is another issue that we will cover. Finally, the role of leadership in strategy implementation and change management is discussed.

In this course, the teaching will be based on class discussions around the readings and presentations prepared by students. In each session, one of the students will summarize the major points of the readings throughout a power point presentation. This approach of teaching would demand considerable efforts from the students’ side.

In addition, through a team project, students should pick a real case (preferably related to strategic planning of Sharif University of Technology) up and develop the strategy map and BSC for it.
